At my earliest memory when I was 3, catching an 18 pound catfish in a pay lake with my father in Georgia.
We moved to Carteret County in the spring of 1992. I grew up fishing in the area at fairly early age. Living within 1000’ of the Bogue Inlet Fishing Pier, most summer days were spent fishing out there. And if the fish were biting, I was out there after school. We’ve spent over 3 decades fishing out there. With endless knowledge gained from older fisherman throughout the years, to figuring stuff out with the boys. Every day out there felt like tournament fishing amongst friends. In the mid to late 90s I even fished with Captain Ashley Forrest of Breakwater Charters, I even got to meet and fish with Captain Trey Sadler when he was just a teenager. In the early 2000s my father purchased a 16’ Coastal Skiff we named “Lucky Mickey.” That’s where the passion for inshore and near shore fishing took place. I had to say as for fishing in the sound goes the Redfish will forever be my favorite fish to catch in North Carolina. As for near fishing I enjoy nothing more than live bait fishing for large Spanish mackerel and King mackerels, with endless amounts of bottom fish to be found on countless wrecks or live bottom. In my mid 20s I received the opportunity to work on my first Charter boat as a mate on the “Pole Dancer” captained by Scott Garris. This is where I gained knowledge about bottom fishing in 120-360’ of water.
